The 2018 Winter Olympics, officially known as the XXIII Olympic Winter Games  is an ongoing international multi-sport event hosted by Pyeongchang, South Korea.  This is the first time that South Korea has hosted the Winter Olympics, and the second Olympics held in the country, the first being the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul.

The Winter Olympics runs from February 9-25, 2018. The games feature 102 events in fifteen sports, including snowboarding, speed and figure skating, and skiing.  A total of 2,952 athletes from 92 National Olympic Committees are slated to compete, including the debut of Ecuador, Eritrea, Kosovo, Malaysia, Nigeria and Singapore.

The first celebration of the modern Olympic Games took place in 1896 in its ancient birthplace of Athens. The Games attracted athletes from 14 nations, with the largest delegations coming from Greece, Germany, France and Great Britain.

FEBRUARY:

February 16, 2018—Chinese New Year also known as the Spring Festival is an important Chinese festival celebrated at the turn of the traditional Chinese calendar. This year is The Year of the Dog.

February 14, 2018-Valentine’s Day is recognized as a significant cultural, religious, and commercial celebration of romance in many regions around the world.

February 19, 2018 -President’s Day is a United States federal holiday celebrated on the third Monday of February in honor of George Washington, the first President of the United States, who was born on February 22, 1732.

March 2, 2018—Holi is a Hindu spring festival celebrated in the Indian subcontinent, also known as the “festival of colours” or the “festival of love”. The festival signifies the victory of good over evil, the arrival of spring, end of winter, and for many a festive day to meet others, play and laugh, forget and forgive, and repair broken relationships.

March 8, 2018—International Women’s Day (IWD) is celebrated to commemorate the movement for women’s rights. In some countries, it is customary for men to give the women in their lives – friends, mothers, wives, girlfriends, daughters, colleagues, etc. – flowers and small gifts.

March 17, 2018—St. Patrick’s Day is a cultural and religious celebration held on March 17, the traditional death date of Saint Patrick (c. AD 385–461), the foremost patron saint of Ireland. Celebrations generally involve public parades and festivals, Irish traditional music and the wearing of green attire or shamrocks. There are also formal gatherings such as banquets and dances, and the St Patrick’s Day parade which include marching bands, the military, fire brigades, cultural organizations, charitable organizations, voluntary associations, and youth groups.

 

Super Bowl LII

American football, referred to as football in the United States and Canada, is the most popular sport in the United States. The first match of American football was played on November 6, 1869, right here in New Jersey, between two college teams, Rutgers and Princeton.

Superbowl 52 was the championship game of the 2017 season of the National Football League (NFL). The Philadelphia Eagles defeated the defending Super Bowl champion and New England Patriots, 41–33, to win their first Super Bowl. The game was held on Sunday, February 4, 2018, at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States.  The Superbowl is the second largest day of eating in the US (Thanksgiving is #1) and advertisers pay thousands of dollars to have their products shown during the game.

The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Men’s Basketball Tournament (known informally as March Madness) is a single-elimination tournament played each spring in the United States, currently featuring 68 college basketball teams to determine the national championship.
